Since 2009 MoRiS has offered students an English-language curriculum focused on kindling research intuition and meticulous theoretical and methodological knowledge. Students and faculty work jointly in investigative projects carrying them from inception to finalization, discussing all along the challenges of acquiring novel evidence-based understandings.
The Master of Research in Sociology focuses on advanced sociological research. Courses are designed as gateways to current conceptual and methodological debates within sociological and social research communities. Students are encouraged to develop and work on their own research interests, to make sense of empirical evidence and to acquire public presentation skills while developing their research projects.
MoRiS is organized by the Department of Sociology, University of Bucharest.
Future career prospects:
- Doctoral studies in sociology and other social sciences;
- Research positions in social sciences – including advanced scientific research, policy-oriented research, social marketing, as well as academic positions;

Why MoRiS? Because it’s the environment that any person interested in Social Sciences in general and Sociology in particular should connect with. During my encounter with the Master of Research in Sociology I was able to leave aside the pure theoretical understanding of Sociology and really contextualize social issues. This meant actually applying conceptual frameworks to real-life situations not in a sporadic manner, but in a consistent way. It has been an experience filled with intriguing readings, challenging statistical models, puzzling interviews, unexpected sources of information and an overall passion for social sciences. Joining the MORIS program at the Faculty of Sociology and Social Work was a decision I have never regretted. I wanted an in-depth program challenging program that focused on both qualitative and quantitative research methods and techniques. Finishing this Master program was a big accomplishment for me. During these two years I had a constant feeling of improvement. Coming from a private University and not being familiar with the Faculty’s requirements, I was worried that the transition to a sociological research master will be difficult. This didn’t happen, and what I found during the courses was a dedicated body of professors who were always challenging us with key-questions and practical topics. A special mention about my colleagues, who were great, devoted, and helpful in so many occasions. MoRiS succeeded in offering me the possibility of achieving the knowledge which I need for a career in sociological research. Moreover, it helped me to form a clear perception on the social world. The Master of Research in Sociology program broadened my horizons. During these two years, I learned how to approach all academic work critically and analytically. MoRiS – the beginning: Three years ago I found myself in the middle of the adventure of finding my place and deciding my academic trajectory. After obtaining a degree in sociology, a research program felt like the most suitable option. Nevertheless, a lot of questions, worries and flutters accompanied the decision making process and the beginning of the period that I subsequently started to call my best learning experience.
MoRiS – the embodied academic experience: In my opinion, MoRiS is a unique tailored educational program in Romania. Why? Because I was given the chance to work together with my professors (shoulder by shoulder) in establishing what, and even more important, how to study. I was encouraged to pursue my interests and to develop my own mechanisms to deal with the ‘reality’, while exploring the world. I was encouraged to debate, to present ideas, and to defend my projects. But most of all, MoRiS represented the place where me and my colleagues grew together as a learning community, enjoying our ride. Although we came in with quite different backgrounds and experiences, we learned to work together, to challenge one another, and to have lots and lots of fun.
